WISH

(Women In Secure Hospitals)

Wish provides long-term, gender-sensitive support and services to women with mental health needs in their journey through the secure system and into the community.

WISH is a national charity with 2 regional offices: one in Liverpool to serve the North and Midlands Region; and the second in London to serve London and the South.  WISH is an organisation run by women for

women, and was started in 1991 to address the appalling and often degrading conditions faced by women

being detained in the High Secure Hospitals of Broadmoor, Rampton and Ashworth.  WISH now works on a

number of levels to provide long-term, gender sensitive support and services to women with mental health needs in their journey through the prison and secure hospital system and into the community. WISH currently works with 950 women, but is building organisational capacity to reach the estimated 2000 detained within

    the secure psychiatric system.
