ABOUT WISH About the women Wish work with |
WISH
aims to give women some influence over their own lives in order to build self
esteem and confidence through the development of long-term positive
relationships, and projects which will give women choice in and control over
their own futures. WISH aims to
empower all women who use WISH services to achieve a self-defined improvement in
quality of life by:
·
Building
long term sustainable and consistent relationships with women
·
Supporting
women’s personal development
·
Enabling
women to link into the community
·
Facilitating
access to training and education
·
Providing
gender specific advocacy
·
Enabling
women to input into local and national policy and have a positive influence on
their treatment and care
·
Providing
gender-specific training, external supervision and a conference programme for
practitioners and staff
Our
work helps to validate women as important individuals who can take
responsibility for their own lives and for whom empowerment to handle their own
issues will be of paramount importance in determining their own futures both
within the system and on moving into the community.
WISH works with women to change an unfair system, which has already
failed many women; we address issues of:
·
Equality
of opportunity
·
Social
exclusion
·
Human
and civil rights
WISH campaigned with women for a dedicated
secure service that provides women with a safe environment that is gender
sensitive and therapeutic at the appropriate level of physical security.
WISH has reviewed it services to ensure that women gain maximum benefit
from the changes effected in national policy by complementing the basic services
provided in secure units; and by working to ensure that practice at secure unit
level reflects national policy. WISH
actively works to ensure that more power lies with women at both a service and
organisational level.
